The 80s may not be the most memorable decade in terms of music, but we still saw some fine work in movies such as Karz, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Disco Dancer, Betaab and Ram Lakhan, which did their bit in keeping the melody alive after the highs of the 1960s and the 1970s. Laxmikant-Pyarelal were the clear leaders, followed by Bappi Lahri. In fact, Ram Lakhan was initially offered to R.D. Burman, but Ghai made a last minute change and got in the in-form L-P for his musical entertainer. Bappi Lahri introduced a modern sound with Disco Dancer. With western influences and fresh-faced singers, Bappi gave a youthful energy to Bollywood music, and his songs have outlived the films they were a part of.
